Fun Facts

August 1912 was the first  Fair and was known as the Hermiston Dairy and Hog Show. The first fair was a joint fair with Morrow County and in 1913 legislation change that made it no longer possible to have a bi county fair.

Umatilla County Accepting Applications For
The 2009 Fair Court

Umatilla County is currently accepting applications for the 2009 fair court. Fair court application deadline is October 15, 2008.

Introducing Umatilla County 2008 Fair Court

Saturday Night February 23, 2008 the Umatilla County Fair announced the 2008 Queen and her court.Fair Court and Their Horses Princess Kati Leetch Queen Emily Lyle Princess Sarah Smith and Princess Nancy Platt

Queen Emily Lyle

Photo Queen EmilyQueen Emily Lyle, daughter of Roy and Elaine Lyle of Pendleton, OR. Queen Emily is a senior at Pendleton High School. Emily’s Court horse is Rey Jey and is a Quarter horse. She has been involved with the Umatilla County Fair 4-H horse and sewing. Queen Emily has received awards for 4-H showing, various rodeos, barrels and poles. She has donated her time to the Pendleton Chamber of Commerce and has helped organize fundraising efforts for a local leukemia victim. Emily has been a pennant Bearer for the Pendleton Roundup for 7 years. Her high school activities include cheerleading, secretary of the Intermountain Rodeo team, Astra, and art. Emily was the 2008 Fair Contest Logo Winner. Her logo competed against local graphic artist. Her future ambitions are to to go to college and become a teacher.

Princess Kati Leetch

Photo Kati LeetchPrincess Kati Leetch,  daughter of Robert & Terri Leetch of Pendleton, OR. Princess Kati is a senior at Pendleton High School. Kati’s Court horse is named, Trader and is a Quarter horse. Kati has been competing in the Umatilla County Fair for the past 8 years as a 4-H member and the last 5 years she has been a junior 4-H leader. Kati has been a volunteer for the Pendleton Round Up and at the Cat’s Meow Humane Society. Kati’s High School awards and activities include the United States Achievement Academy, Miss Oregon Teen State Finalist, Student Government Senior Class Vice President and cheerleading. Katie enjoys horseback riding and cheerleading. Her ambition is to go to Boise State University and major in chemistry and minor in forensic science.

Princess Nancy Platt

Photo Nancy PlattPrincess Nancy Platt, daughter of Wayne Platt Jr of Pilot Rock and Jeanne Reeves of Pendleton. Princess Nancy is a senior at Pendleton High School. Nancy’s Court horse is Lenny and is a Quarter horse. She has been involved for the past several years. She starting showing 4-H swine at the age of ten and has went on to show in Open Class and FFA. Her involvement includes cooking, table setting, flower arranging, sewing, and livestock. Nancy’s community involvement includes making fleece hats for needy children at Christmas time, being Benny the OSU Beaver for the Pendleton Round Up and Westward Ho parade, she also volunteers her time with the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and National Wild Turkey Federation. Her ambition is to attend Oregon State University this fall and major in biology, from there she would like to go to veterinary school. Nancy would like to become an equine surgeon or a livestock veterinarian.

Princess Sarah Smith

Photo Sarah SmithPrincess Sarah Smith Daughter of Troy and Joanne Smith of Pendleton Oregon. Princess Sarah is a senior at Pendleton High School. Sarah's horse is Sonny and he is a quarter horse. Sarah has participated in 4-H cooking and she will be showing a sheep and her horse at this years fair. Sarah has been a can-can dancer in the Happy Canyon night pageant for three years. Sarah has volunteered at the annual BMCC Christmas Eve Dinner for three years, Relay for Life for two years; she is the publicist for her high school Sparrow Club, and she has volunteered many hours to other service projects. Sarah's other high school activities include: equestrian team, dance team, ballet, drama, tennis, Acapella choir, key club, and four years of Spanish. When Sarah has free time she enjoys horseback riding, dancing, hunting, photography, and running. This fall Sarah will be attending BMCC and later transferring to OSU where she will obtain a Bachelor's of Science in Human Biology. From there she will go on to Life University of Georgia to become a Wellness Chiropractor.
